About

We are a grassroots collective of volunteers across Ireland advocating for the liberation of trans healthcare.

Our Story

Irish trans healthcare is in crisis. We face a centralised, paternalistic, and pathologising system, with interminable wait lists that harm our communities every day. Systemic barriers mean that many Irish trans people are left with far too few options: travel overseas, pay for expensive private services often based abroad, or self-medicate. Yet uniquely, Ireland has no laws or policies that restrict our care, so it doesn't have to be this way.

Trans Healthcare Action exists to realise the transformation we know is possible. Since 2022, we have been mapping and building our tools, resources, networks, and dreams — advocating in political spaces, challenging medical systems, and strengthening our communities.

With more than 50 volunteers across the country, we are organising to create a new system wherein trans people can not only survive, but thrive — a system where our care, bodies, and lives are fully liberated.

  1. We want freedom to determine our own destinies.

Trans people will not be free until we can decide the course of our own bodies, lives, communities, and futures ourselves.

  2. We want full bodily autonomy for all trans people.

Our care must centre bodily and mental integrity, our sovereignty over ourselves, and free and informed consent, not psychiatric control.

  3. We want free, safe, local, timely access to trans care.

Trans health services must be in every community, without cost and without delay. Medications must be free, and surgeries available within Ireland.

  4. We want power over our own health systems.

Trans people must co-design and deliver our own care. Our health must be under community control, not in the hands of medical gatekeepers.

We believe our community holds the power, wisdom, and knowledge to reimagine and radically transform our care. We will not wait for permission or shrink ourselves to fit into what those in power will allow. There should be nothing about us without us.

The future of liberated trans healthcare in Ireland is not just a dream. It is already being built, by us, for us. We are determined to ensure that every trans person has the fundamental freedom to make their own decisions about their bodies, health, and lives.

Our Vision

Trans Healthcare Action envisions an Ireland where all people have autonomy over their own bodies, lives, and futures within communities of care. In this future, care is free, safe, local, and timely — rooted in self-determination and bodily autonomy. Our model is built on informed consent, community-based care, harm reduction, and co-production.
